TOUCH CHAMPIONSHIPS
Touch Football Three-Peat
(October 21, 2006) - All three defending champions were victorious during the finals of the 26th season of the Coors Light St. John's Touch Football League.
In the Women's Final, which was a rematch of 2005, Hickman Motors defeated Republic 27 to 6. After giving up the initial touchdown, Hickman's replied with 27 straight points. Kerri Highmore, who was named playoff MVP scored 12 points and had 1 interception. Sue Hickman also scored 12 points and had 2 interceptions. Republic was led by Jackie Mackenzie who scored 1 touchdown and had an interception. This is Hickman's 3rd straight championship.
In the Men's Championship game, Outlaws defeated Gulls 52 to 0 to win their second consecutive championship. Although the teams split their season series, the Outlaws gained the early momentum in the final and the Gulls were never able to take advantage of their opportunities in their first ever trip to the finals. Outlaws were lead by Peter Benoite's 25 points, who was named playoff MVP, Chris Wheeler's 5 touchdown passes and Craig Coopers 5 interceptions. The Gulls had interceptions by Jason Kelly, Cyril Power and Shayne Menecola.
In the Men's B Final, Greensleeves Edge won their second straight championship with a 16 to 7 victory over the Rage. The Edge were lead by 10 points from Graeme Lehman, who was named playoff MVP, and 1 touchdown, 2 interceptions and 1 TD pass by Jon Dawe. The Rage who were playing in their first final were lead by Ryan Pittman's touchdown and 5 sacks.
