History & Objectives

Football Canada Cup is the Under 19 National Tackle Football Championship that was developed in 1992, featuring the best high school and midget football players from across Canada who had not yet played at the university or junior level. The first competition was held in 1993, with the addition of the Under 17 Championship in 2004, underlining Football Canada’s commitment to increasing participation of Tackle Football across Canada.

During its initial stage the event involved a series of qualifying games across Canada to determine which four Provincial Teams would advance to the "final four" tournament. The Championship now allows for every province that is a member of Football Canada to submit a provincial team at the National Final.

The specific objectives of the Football Canada Cup are:

  1. To provide Canada's best youth football players in the age category of Under 19 & Under 17 the opportunity to participate in a National Championship while developing their skills and showcasing these individuals as the best players in this age category.
  2. To promote National unity, by permitting athletes from the various regions of Canada to live together once a year while participating in a National Championship, and to see and experience the culture of the host province.
  3. To promote and develop consistent delivery systems, programs, and rules among all provincial associations for the development of young football players.
  4. To encourage individuals to continue playing amateur football in Canada at the Junior (CJFL, QJFL) or University (CIS) Level.
  5. Football Canada is very proud to foster an environment which promotes gender equity within the association; cultivates the principles of fair play; and, further, enforces an anti-doping policy by adopting the Canadian Anti-Doping Program as endorsed by Sport Canada.
