- January 6, 2011
External

THE UNB SAINT JOHN SEAWOLVES FOOTBALL TEAM had a very successful year . The Seawolves won the regular season championship, the Jack Irving Cup 8-0 and won the playoff Moosehead Cup Championship Game. The Seawolves play in the Atlantic Football League with teams from Dalhousie University Tigers, UNB Fredericton Red Bombers, Holland College Hurricanes of PEI and the Moncton Mustangs .The team provides all of the equipment, the players pay to play and along with many community minded sponsors pay all their own expenses. The ages to play in the AFL are 18-24 most of the players are from local high schools. Football is growing at a tremendous rate : all equipment is supplied , all players make the teams , its co-ed and there is room for all types of athletes.

Fundy Minor Football operates from Saint Stephen to Sussex and children start playing as young as 6 years old. There are also high shool teams , senior teams , male and female leagues and many touch football teams and leagues . There are thousands of people playing football getting plenty of exercise which is good for  mental and physical health.

The Seawolves have created an opportunity for local players to keep playing at a high level after high school and pursue their education at the same time. The Seawolves have created an opportunity for our young people to stay home and make Greater Saint John a vibrant community. The team is operated by dozens of volunteers who love to see our young people stay active and stay in Saint John .

We are looking forward to our third season as we are also planning on playing more US College teams this year in exhibition. The Seawolves play at the beautifully newly refurbished Canada Games Stadium, the nicest stadium in Atlantic Canada.
